SHAH ALAM, May 10 — The police have successfully arrested six local men believed to be involved in the theft of Telekom Malaysia cables in Section 2, following an incident that went viral on social media on May 2.

Shah Alam district police chief ACP Ramsay Embol said the arrests were made by the Shah Alam district police headquarters’ (IPD) Criminal Investigation Division, in collaboration with the Section 9 police station’s Crime Prevention Branch and the Selangor police contingent headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department.

The operation was launched around the Klang Valley from Monday (May 4) to yesterday, between 3am and 2.05am.

“Police have successfully detained six local men aged between 26 and 40 years old.

“Investigation revealed that all suspects possess seven to 31 prior criminal and drug-related records, while four of them tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine when they were arrested,” he said in a statement today.

Ramsay added that during the raids, the police seized a Nissan Navara, tools used by the suspect in the thefts, and three rolls of cable belonging to Telekom Malaysia.

Further investigations are still ongoing, and with the arrest of this criminal group, several other cable theft cases in Selangor can be solved.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction.

He said the case is also being investigated under Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. If convicted, they face a fine not exceeding RM300,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both.

Any individual with further information can contact Shah Alam IPD Criminal Investigation Officer Insp Mohammad Amirul bin Zulkifli (012-5583436) to assist in the investigation.
