SHAH ALAM, May 10 — The first series of the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and PARA SUKMA 2026 Torch Run Tour kicked off at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam today, serving as a symbol of unity ahead of the nation’s largest sporting event in Selangor in August.
State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the tour serves as a medium to raise the sporting spirit while strengthening community bonds across races, religions, and backgrounds.
“We want to ensure that when we visit every local authority, we are able to involve the entire community, regardless of religion, race, or background.
“In fact, at the state constituency level, we are also involving opposition representatives because the spirit of SUKMA is one of unity.
“We disregard differences in race, religion, and political affiliation because we want all parties to be involved in this state and national-level event,” he said.
Najwan was speaking to the media during the first series of the SUKMA 2026 and Para SUKMA Torch Run for the Shah Alam City Council, at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam.
He added that Klang will be the second destination of the tour before proceeding to Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Selayang, Ampang Jaya, Kajang, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, and Kuala Langat, and finally conclude in Sepang on August 9.
“Among the locations involved are Laman Seni Safarie Klang on May 24, Dataran Melawati Kuala Selangor (June 6), Dataran Bagan Terap Sabak Bernam (June 13), Dataran Warisan Kuala Kubu Baharu (June 21), and Stadium Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (June 27).
“This is followed by Taman Melawati Ampang Jaya (July 5), Pekan Kajang (July 12), MPSJ USJ 5 Arena (July 19), Taman Jaya Petaling Jaya LRT Station (July 26), Pantai Batu Laut Kuala Langat (August 2), and D’Pulze Cyberjaya, Sepang on August 9," Najwan said.
The councillor noted that Selangor is committed to ensuring SUKMA 2026 runs smoothly, despite being carried out under strict expenditure controls.
The state government’s primary focus at this time is to ensure that athletes' welfare and preparations remain a priority, enabling them to perform at their best throughout the games.
“We want to ensure the athletes receive the best support and preparation as they are not only representing the state, but also have the potential to represent the country at a higher level in the future,” he said.
