SYDNEY, May 10 — The state government has been urged to expand support towards innovation and the research ecosystem to fulfil the needs and aspirations of Selangor’s students.
Universiti Selangor’s president and vice chancellor Prof Emeritus Dato’ Hassan Basri said strategic cooperation among educational institutions and industry needs to be strengthened by providing more high-quality industrial training opportunities.
Among the areas that warrant monitoring are student welfare and well-being initiatives, such as targeted educational assistance, mental health support, youth leadership development, and more equitable access to digital learning.
“A continuous engagement platform among the state government and students must be established so that the voices of Selangor’s youth can be highlighted in the process of community development policies and the state’s development agenda,” he said.
Hassan was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Selangor Student Convention Abroad Australia at the PARKROYAL Darling Harbour Hotel last night, which was officiated by the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Australia Datin Paduka Sharrina Abdullah.
He emphasised that investment in student development is a long-term commitment to the future of both Selangor and Malaysia.
“If the talents, ideas, and potential of youth can be polished well, then we will not only be able to produce competent graduates, but also a generation of leaders with integrity, progressiveness, and competitiveness at the global level,” Hassan said.
