SHAH ALAM, May 8 — Uptown Shah Alam in Section 24 here is set to reopen by September with a new, more modern facade and safer facilities, said Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al-Rashid Haron.
He said the project is nearly done and developers are waiting for the Completion and Compliance Certificate (CCC) to be issued.
“If you go by PKNS’ (standards), construction is done, and TNB (Tenaga Nasional Bhd) is also done. All that’s left now is the CCC application. I was made to understand that (this matter will be brought up at a) meeting soon and approval is expected in June or July.
“Even though the CCC is pending, PKNS is acting early and has opened bidding for traders for all 440 business lots,” he told Media Selangor.
Danial added that the “uptown” concept is more systematic and modern, with each lot being of a standard size with neater wiring and individual electricity supply to each unit.
“Each unit has its own TNB account, so if there’s a problem we can control just the unit involved.
“The new system could also reduce the risk of major fires like those in 2014 and 2018,” he said, adding that the new designs have considerations for flood mitigation.
“The site has been elevated a bit and the flood factor was considered in the design. God willing, normal floods won’t affect the premises,” Danial explained.
Previously, media reports said the area would be redeveloped after a fire on November 12, 2018, which destroyed 41 business lots.
The redevelopment involves two double-storey blocks with a “modern Bugis” concept, and emphasises safety, comprehensive facilities, and more comfortable spaces for traders and visitors.
