SHAH ALAM, May 8 — The Port Klang Marine Police (PPM) seized more than RM220,000 worth of untaxed cigarettes, liquor and diesel in two separate enforcement operations around Klang yesterday.
Its Region One commander Jaffri Bidin said the first raid was carried out at an industrial premises in Pandamaran at about 1.30 pm.
Three Bangladeshi men aged between 34 and 40 were detained during the operation after failing to provide valid documents for the goods stored at the premises.
“Checks found that all the premises’ caretakers failed to produce documents related to the goods stored at the location.
“Further inspection uncovered various types of cigarettes and liquor believed to be untaxed, with the total value of seizures estimated at RM120,294.04,” he said in a statement.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Excise Act 1976.
In a separate raid at an industrial area in Meru Selatan, Kapar, authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle subsidised diesel.
Jaffri said the operation was launched following public information regarding a suspicious lorry seen in the area.
“During the operation, officers found diesel being transferred from an intermediate bulk container (IBC) tank on the lorry to another IBC tank at the industrial site,” he said.
Authorities seized 2,000 litres of diesel along with a bonded lorry, fuel pump and related equipment, with total seizures estimated at RM100,740.
A local man believed to be the lorry driver was also detained to assist investigations under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
