SHAH ALAM, May 3 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) strongly condemns the dissemination of edited visual content insulting the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj as the state's Head of Islam, which was allegedly uploaded via several Facebook accounts.

Its chairman Dato' Salehuddin Saidin said the actions linked to the Facebook account 'Lucas Liam', as well as an earlier case involving the account 'Huayan The Pure Learning Centre', were deemed uncivil, irresponsible, and deliberately intended to hurt the feelings of Muslims in Selangor.

The visual content not only disrespected His Royal Highness' position as the Head of Islam, but also associated the royal institution with imagery and elements contrary to Islamic law and beyond accepted social norms.

“MAIS believes that these actions were carried out deliberately to hurt the feelings of the Muslim community in Selangor,” he said in a statement today.

The council also emphasised that any form of insult towards the royal institution must not be taken lightly, as it has the potential to undermine harmony among Malaysia's multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.

In this regard, MAIS urged the authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, to conduct an immediate investigation to ensure those responsible are brought to justice and face appropriate punishment.

Meanwhile, it stressed that the institution of the Malay Rulers is a pillar of unity among the people of various races in the country and must continue to be respected and preserved by all parties, regardless of race or religion.

“Therefore, all parties, irrespective of race and religion, must respect and safeguard the royal institution from any elements that could tarnish and undermine its sovereignty,” Salehuddin said.

MAIS remains committed to defending the position of the Sultan as Head of Islam in the state and calls on the public to continue upholding harmony and shared well-being.
