SHAH ALAM, May 3 — Selangor FC produced a stylish comeback to reclaim second place in the Malaysia Super League after thrashing Penang FC 4-0 in a dominant display at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium last night.
BH Online reported that the encouraging victory saw Kim Pan Gon's squad move back ahead of Kuching City FC with 49 points, two points clear of their nearest challengers, who still have a game in hand.
It all began as early as the 10th minute when Chrigor Moraes blasted in the opener from a Hugo Boumous corner, signalling a difficult night ahead for the visitors.
Just four minutes later, Boumous compounded the visitors’ misery by calmly finishing a low pass from Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim to double the hosts’ lead.
Selangor’s relentless attacks continued to trap Penang, and set-pieces once again proved decisive as Boumous provided his second assist before Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar headed in the third goal in the 19th minute.
Although goalkeeper Mohamad Ramdhan Ab Hamid made several saves, including denying Moraes just before the break, the sustained pressure eventually took its toll.
After the restart, Ramdhan continued to work hard to keep out attempt after attempt, but his resilience was finally broken in the 61st minute when Alvin Fortes’ free-kick flew into the net for Selangor’s fourth.
The 4-0 scoreline remained until the final whistle, capping a brilliant night for the Red Giants, who not only returned to second place but also sent a clear message in the race for this season’s runners-up spot.
