SHAH ALAM, April 29 — Selangor is intensifying efforts to position itself as a regional hub for artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure development, with a focus on strengthening data centre capacity and attracting hi-tech investments.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said Selangor is actively developing data centres while reinforcing comprehensive digital infrastructure, including ensuring stable electricity supply, high-capacity telecommunications networks, and sufficient water resources to support long-term AI and cloud-computing operations.
“AI development and data centre investments in Selangor are currently concentrated in strategic growth corridors, especially Sepang, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Klang, which offer strong connectivity and infrastructure readiness.
“The Selangor Career Outreach (SCOUT) programme, in collaboration with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), is being strengthened to bridge the gap between industry players, educational institutions, and graduates, with the aim of creating more job opportunities in hi-tech sectors,” he told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.
Ng added that the initiative is designed to ensure local talent is equipped with relevant skills demanded by the fast-growing digital economy, alongside state efforts to strengthen policies to expedite approvals while ensuring sustainable development, enhancing Selangor’s competitiveness as a preferred destination for AI investments.
Additionally, he said comprehensive preparations have been made in terms of infrastructure and workforce to support AI investments.
“To assess infrastructure readiness based on project requirements, Invest Selangor (Bhd) conducts pre-investment meetings with investors, local authorities, agencies, and relevant stakeholders,” Ng said, noting that collaborations with global technology companies have opened up new opportunities for skills development and knowledge transfer, especially in advanced technologies such as AI, cloud computing, and data analytics.
“These partnerships are crucial in ensuring Selangor not only attracts investments, but also develops a skilled workforce capable of supporting the future digital economy,” he said.
Ng also said these initiatives are part of Selangor’s broader strategy to strengthen the state’s position as a leading regional digital and technology investment destination.
