Shah Alam police chase ends in crash as four migrants arrested

SHAH ALAM, Apr 28 — A bid by four undocumented migrants, including a 14-year-old teenager, to escape in a vehicle failed after the car they were in skidded and crashed into a lamp post in an incident yesterday morning.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Ramsay Embol said the police received information at about 9.49 am regarding a chase involving a Honda City at Dataran Otomobil, Section 15, heading towards the Section 15 roundabout.

He said officers instructed the driver to stop the vehicle by activating warning lights, sounding the horn and using a loudhailer, but the instructions were ignored.

“The driver sped off and drove recklessly, endangering other road users,” he said in a statement, reported by Harian Metro.

He said the vehicle later skidded and crashed into a lamp post before it was successfully stopped at a residential area in Jalan Ibus Dua 18/40B, Section 18.

“A check found three men and one woman, all Indonesian nationals, inside the vehicle. No illegal items were discovered.

“Checks also found that all suspects, aged between 14 and 41, did not possess valid travel documents,” he said.

He added that initial urine screenings found two of the four suspects tested positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Sections 186 and 279 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants and reckless driving, as well as Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for lack of valid documents.

If convicted, offenders may face imprisonment, fines, or both under the relevant laws.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact investigating officer Sgt Mohd Ariff Mat Saman @ Abdul Ghani at 019-2647349 to assist investigations.
