SHAH ALAM, April 27 — The Selangor State Legislative Assembly was told today that the Federal government is currently reviewing the state’s application to adopt the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672).
State executive councillor for local government and tourism, Dato' Ng Suee Lim, said the review includes comprehensive due diligence covering legal, financial, operational, and governance implications.
"The state government has not yet agreed to the adoption of Act 672. Any decision on applying this Act will be made responsibly and based on the state's interests, taking into account the capacity of local authorities and the existing solid waste management structure," he said.
Ng was responding to Subang Jaya state assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze's query on the status of Act 672's application in Selangor.
He added that the state government's priority is to ensure the continuity of efficient, stable, and sustainable waste management services.
Any consideration of applying Act 672 will proceed only if it provides clear added value and improves the effectiveness of the current system.
