MBPJ, KGNS sign deal to tackle Kelana Jaya flash floods

SHAH ALAM, April 25 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has formed a strategic partnership with the Subang National Golf Club (KGNS) on a critical drainage upgrade project aimed at mitigating flood risks along Jalan SS 7/2 in Kelana Jaya.

In a Facebook post, MBPJ said this collaboration is a proactive action to strengthen flood mitigation efforts in high-risk areas.

The collaboration was cemented through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato’ Mohamad Zahri Samingon and KGNS vice-president Abdul Majid Md Yusof, witnessed by MBPJ Engineering Department senior assistant director (assets) Mohd Aswardi Kong Mohd Azizi Kong and KGNS captain Lee Say Yong.

Also present were state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah and Perbadanan Padang Golf Subang (PPGS) senior executive officer Fara Hazwani Dahari.

MBPJ said that with this collaboration, it would lead efforts to develop a more efficient drainage network, including by building new drains, installing safety fences around new infrastructure, and upgrading existing drainage systems.

During the ceremony, a technical briefing on emergency works was presented by Perniagaan Emzek project manager Muhamad Fadhullah Rahim on the timeline and engineering specifications for the SS 7/2 area.

“This initiative reflects MBPJ’s ongoing commitment to strengthening urban infrastructure for a safer, more sustainable environment that is resilient to flood risks,” MBPJ said in its Facebook post.

The council extended its gratitude to KGNS, PPGS and involved parties for their cooperation in prioritising the safety and well-being of Petaling Jaya residents.
