MEX crash: Military officer being probed for murder after hitting tourists

SHAH ALAM, April 25 — A suspect who crashed their vehicle into another on the Maju Expressway (MEX) on Thursday, killing one and injuring four other people, is being investigated for murder, reported SAYS.

The 31-year-old military officer was escorted to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters yesterday, where a remand application was filed.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The case was initially investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020) for driving under the influence of alcohol, resulting in death.

Police previously confirmed that a breathalyser revealed the driver’s alcohol level beyond the legal limit, while a urinalysis tested negative for drugs.

The court has ordered a five-day remand for the suspect, read before Magistrate Guftan Nor Asyikin Murlikamal at 10.45am at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

If convicted, a murder charge entails the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, as well as whipping if the death penalty is not applied.

In the 5.38am on Thursday near Km1.9 of the MEX between Salak Selatan to Jalan Tun Razak, a Ford Fiesta driven by the suspect crashed into a Perodua Alza e-hailing vehicle.

The Fiesta is thought to have crossed into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with the Alza, resulting in the death of Muzahid Millad, a gaming YouTuber.

Among the Alza passengers, 22-year-old Muzahid, who was seated in the centre row, sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene. His wife, Nafisa Tabassum Adiba, 20, was injured and is being treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL)

The 41-year-old e-hailing driver sustained brain injuries.

The suspect and their female passenger sustained minor injuries.

The news of the content creator’s death caused an outpouring of condolences on social media, particularly among Bangladesh’s online gaming community, which is demanding accountability over Muzahid’s death.

A statement posted on Muzahid’s YouTube channel, which has over 790,000 subscribers, confirmed his death.
