Breakthrough reached in gurdwara relocation after eight years

SHAH ALAM, Apr 24 — The long-standing issue of relocating Gurdwara Sungai Tua, which has stretched nearly eight years, has seen positive progress following the achievement of a mutual agreement.

The agreement was reached between the Gurdwara Association and the state government after detailed negotiations.

The matter was finalised during a coordination meeting on the relocation, which focused on refining the best possible solution.

Political secretary to the menteri besar, A Rahim Ahmad Kasdi, said the decision was reached by taking into account the interests of all parties involved.

“After nearly eight years, an agreement on the relocation of Gurdwara Sungai Tua has finally been achieved through detailed negotiations that prioritised the interests of all parties,” he said in a social media post.

He said the discussions resulted in both parties agreeing on a proposed solution.

The proposal will be brought to the State Executive Council (MMKN) for further review and consideration before a final decision is made.

Previously, the issue arose due to the need to relocate the place of worship, which faced constraints related to land status and surrounding development.

Numerous negotiations had been held over the eight-year period to find a suitable resolution.

He added that the negotiation approach reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring that solutions are implemented in an inclusive, fair and harmonious manner.

“The state government is committed to ensuring that issues involving places of worship are handled in an inclusive, fair and harmonious manner for the well-being of the community,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by Gombak District Officer Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz, representatives from the Selangor Land and Mines Office, as well as officials from the Menteri Besar’s Office.
