KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pledged that the Madani government will continue to provide space for harmonious, orderly and respectful discussions with the Sarawak and Sabah governments.
He said that in the Madani spirit, the federal government is determined to not only resolve outstanding issues, but also realise the long-awaited aspirations of the people of Sabah and Sarawak.
“The Madani government today is the most proactive and has resolved the most matters related to MA63 (Malaysia Agreement 1963), the result of commitment, consensus and cooperation from all parties,” he said in a Facebook post.
Anwar said he chaired the first 2025 meeting of the MA63 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) at the Satria Pertiwi Complex in Kuching today.
Also present were Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and federal and state leaders.
Anwar said the meeting focused on reporting the progress of the implementation of agreements under MA63.
He added that among the matters tabled and discussed were the proposal to increase the number of MPs from Sabah and Sarawak, tourism affairs, authority in the appointment of judicial commissioners, and the delegation of powers relating to environmental management.
The prime minister also expressed appreciation to the Sarawak and Sabah governments for their close cooperation, sincerity and spirit of solidarity, which have been the foundation for realising MA63 in a fair and meaningful way.
