Bali floods: Malaysia stands in solidarity with Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his condolences to the people of Indonesia following the tragic loss of lives caused by flash floods in Bali.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives following the flash floods in Bali. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost loved ones, and with all those whose homes and livelihoods have been affected,” he posted on Facebook today.

Anwar noted that Malaysia stood in solidarity with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and the people of Indonesia during this painful moment.

“Malaysia grieves with you, and we will continue to hold the people of Bali in our hearts as they recover from this disaster,” he added.

Heavy rain on the resort island of Bali on Wednesday triggered flooding in several areas, including Jembrana, Gianyar, Badung, Tabanan, Karangasem, Klungkung and Denpasar.

Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said in a statement that, so far, 14 people have been confirmed dead, two remain missing and 659 others have been affected by the disaster.
