KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 — Selangor Red Giants (SRG.OG) expressed confidence of clinching the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia title for the fourth consecutive season when the new campaign kicks off tomorrow.
SRG.OG coach Michael Angelo Boccado, better known as Arcadia, said the team had made thorough preparations, with a strong emphasis on focus and consistency, as they aim to defend their title.
“We want to make sure we don’t get complacent this season. Our focus is on staying clear about how to achieve our goals because we want that fourth championship,” he said.
“This season will definitely be more challenging as many teams have brought in new players and coaching staff, and everyone is targeting a spot in the M-Series. It’s going to be an exciting and highly competitive campaign,” he told Bernama during the pre-launch of the 16th MPL season yesterday.
Arcadia believes the team’s past experience will be its biggest asset in handling the mental pressure of the tournament.
“We are a team that has been through a lot — from being at the top to enduring losing streaks — so we understand what it takes to build a strong mentality,” he said.
“This season will demand a lot of effort for us to defend the championship, but we are confident we can do it. We are the kind of team that doesn't just aim for something unattainable — we aim for what we know we can achieve, and we know what it takes to get there,” he said.
SRG.OG also hinted that it has devised various new strategies and is ready to face the changes in the game meta that are expected to occur next week.
Meanwhile, SRG.OG player, Hazziq Danish Mohamad Rizwan, known as Stormie, is confident in the squad's ability to extend the MPL championship record.
“I think we can retain it, but we don't want to get too comfortable. We will keep fighting,” he said.
For the record, SRG.OG became the first team to win the MPL for three consecutive seasons (13th, 14th and 15th).
