KLANG, Sept 12 — Literary writers are urged to maintain credibility and integrity in their work, ensuring that each piece carries quality and values that leave a lasting impact on society.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said a writer’s responsibility goes beyond merely producing content, requiring them to pour thought and soul into every piece.
“Therefore, I call for accountability to ensure that what is conveyed about life and humanity remains fair, rational, and capable of promoting peace in the country.
“Besides providing enjoyment to readers, our minds are constantly challenged by falsehoods, hypocrisy, and various issues surrounding us. If we fail to respond appropriately and accurately, we risk becoming victims."
Amirudin said this in his speech at the Hadiah Sastera Selangor (HSS) 2025 ceremony at Wyndham Acmar, Klang last night.
The Menteri Besar also reminded writers to maintain readers' trust by producing creative and visionary work.
"More than merely texts, literary work should reflect on our future and the course of lives, which will be recorded by history," he said.
Later, when speaking to the press, Amirudin said the HSS will continue to be held in the future, showcasing fresh and diverse works that inspire both the current and next generations.
He said the award serves as an important platform to recognise the works of local writers while providing moral and intellectual enrichment to society.
“Thank God, the HSS has entered its 10th year, and interestingly, some of the works were contributed by well-known writers. I believe this award will continue over the years."

A total of nine local writers of creative works were announced as the main winners at the prestigious event last night.
Judged from 2022 to 2024, the grand prize winners in the short story, poetry, and essay categories each received RM6,000, while 27 writers in the respective categories were awarded RM1,500 each in recognition of their contributions, bringing the total prize money to RM94,500.
The HSS was introduced by Amirudin during his tenure as state executive councillor for youth, sports, culture and entrepreneurship in 2015.
Winning literary works are published throughSelangorkini’s weekly newspaper and online portal, and compiled annually into the Si Pena series, which is launched at the following year’s awards ceremony.
