SHAH ALAM, Sept 9 — A total of 10 flood mitigation projects are being carried out in Selangor as part of the government’s long-term efforts to address recurring floods nationwide.
Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said in a parliamentary written reply yesterday that seven of the projects are currently under implementation, while three are in the pre-implementation stage.
He said nationwide, the government has identified 114 flood mitigation projects, with 76 already under way and 32 in the pre-implementation phase.
These projects cover major flood-prone states including Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, and the Klang Valley.
Fadillah added that flood management strategies involve both structural measures such as floodwalls, levees, pump houses, water gates, retention ponds, and river deepening, as well as non-structural measures, including the preparation of 54 completed master plans and five more in progress.
“The government recognises that flood management is a major challenge requiring strategic planning, consistent implementation and effective maintenance.
“Strong cooperation between state governments and local authorities is essential to ensure initiatives are carried out effectively and deliver maximum impact on public well-being,” it said.
