Selangor eyes partnership with India in AI, semiconductor

SHAH ALAM, Sept 7 — Selangor is exploring potential collaboration with India, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor, said state executive councillor investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.

He said India’s strategic position in the global tech supply chain presents numerous opportunities for collaboration, particularly in advancing the partnership between the Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia (Asem) and India’s semiconductor institutes.

This collaboration, according to Ng, will focus on enhancing semiconductor chip design, technological innovation, talent development, and industry-academia partnerships.

"Given the ongoing shifts in the global geopolitical landscape, we are presented with a unique opportunity to accelerate progress.

"By strengthening our cooperation in the semiconductor and AI sectors, we aim to enhance both our competitiveness and economic resilience, creating a mutually beneficial outcome for both parties," he said on Facebook yesterday.

Ng said this following his recent business trip to India, where he met with the High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, B. Nagabhushana Reddy.

Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had said that the state government’s focus on developing integrated circuit (IC) design demonstrates Selangor’s commitment to creating more high-income job opportunities for its people.

He said the emphasis is not only on the semiconductor sector but also includes e-commerce and start-up development programmes through the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec).
