KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 — The Selangor government has directed all businesses to remove advertising and promotional materials for electronic cigarette and vape products by year-end.

State executive councillor for local government Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said local authorities have been instructed to issue notices urging businesses to voluntarily comply with the directive.

“So far, we have instructed the councils to monitor this matter. If by the end of the year businesses are still stubborn, stricter action will be taken.

“We will discuss the matter with all local authorities in the near future," he said.

Ng said this when met at the Malaysian Association of Travel and Tourism Agents (Matta) Fair 2025 held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec), here, yesterday.

Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that a proposal to ban the sale of vape and electronic cigarette products would be tabled in the state legislative assembly.

Amirudin said the move was prompted by growing health concerns, including reports of students vaping near school compounds.

To date, Terengganu, Perlis and Johor have already enforced similar bans, with Johor implementing it since 2016 and Perlis and Terengganu beginning on August 1.
