KUALA SELANGOR, Sept 6 — The state government is fully prepared to face this year’s monsoon season, following various improvements made to Selangor's flood management ecosystem.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said these enhancements include infrastructure maintenance, providing support assets, and coordination with relevant agencies to ensure more effective disaster management.

Flood-related projects are also progressing according to schedule and are being monitored regularly to ensure each phase is carried out as planned.

“Our preparations are similar to previous years, except that this year we have implemented many improvements. When I visited six local authorities recently, we saw that some had already begun and others had completed their ‘quick win’ measures ahead of the monsoon.

“Other preparations include mobile pumps, water gate operations, and disaster-related initiatives led by YB Najwan, which are also fully ready in case a crisis occurs.

“We are doing our best in terms of maintenance and preparedness. Project implementation is also on schedule, and we are now monitoring it consistently to ensure it progresses as planned,” he said.

He was speaking to the press after the certificate of recognition presentation ceremony today by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) to the Selangor Fruit Valley as Malaysia's largest tropical fruit farm and largest agro-tourism centre. Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari received the certificate from MBOR representative Menaga Vadamalai.

Izham added that the six local authorities involved include the Klang Royal City Council, the Shah Alam City Council, the Subang Jaya City Council, the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council, the Kajang Municipal Council, and the Selayang Municipal Council.

“There is one more that I will visit soon, in Sepang. The others exist, too, but the issues are not as serious as in these six. But we must understand that when we go down to the local authorities, it does not mean the council itself is the problem, but rather the areas under its jurisdiction.

“This involves various agencies including the Public Works Department, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, the Irrigation and Drainage Department, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad, and Indah Water Konsortium. So all parties are working together to complete their respective responsibilities to ensure the flood management ecosystem runs smoothly,” he said.

Previously, the councillor said that RM4 billion had been allocated for flood mitigation projects in Selangor, comprising RM3.5 billion from the Federal government and RM500 million from the state government.
