KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — The recently busted syndicate selling pornographic content involving babies and children is believed to have international links, according to the police.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said this followed information received from foreign authorities regarding the syndicate’s activities in selling pornographic content.
Many videos and images of child sexual abuse have been uploaded to certain dark websites with international networks.
“For investigations into this syndicate, police are facing difficulties in tracing the owners and individuals who have access to the dark web,” he told the press after a meeting between the Communications Ministry, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and social media platform TikTok at Bukit Aman today.
Kumar added that so far, no new arrests have been made apart from the 11 individuals, including the mastermind, who were detained in Johor Bahru under Ops Pedo conducted between July 19 and August 19.
On August 29, the police uncovered the paedophilia syndicate’s activities through Ops Pedo, a month-long operation by the Malaysian Internet Crime Against Children (MICAC) unit of PDRM’s Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division (D11), together with international agencies.
