PASIR MAS, Sept 4 — Several more witnesses will be called up to attend the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) proceedings into the management of cooking oil subsidies and price controls.

Its chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin did not rule out the possibility that previous witnesses from the agencies involved would also be recalled to discuss the issue.

"There are many things that we can recommend in the proceedings later, and also when we are informed of the position… because there is private land.

"When we have made the recommendation and refined it, we will present it in the Dewan Rakyat. As such, we will call several more witnesses for the subsidised cooking oil… we will discuss who else needs to be called up, and we have many more reports to complete before it can be presented at the next sitting,” she said.

Ermieyati was speaking to the press after spending about 20 minutes surveying the illegal MCA and Syed Agil bases near Rantau Panjang today.

She said her visit to the illegal base areas in Kelantan was aimed at directly monitoring enforcement activities to curb the smuggling of subsidised cooking oil to Thailand, as it is part of the proceedings related to the Management of Price Control and Cooking Oil Subsidies under the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).

"When we sit in the proceedings room, we do not know the actual situation at this border, but when we go down to the ground and look at the situation up close…I see that we can make many recommendations at the proceedings,” Ermieyati said.

She added that the PAC also surveyed three water treatment plants (LRAs) — Merbau Chondong, Jelawat, and Kelar — in Kelantan yesterday.

It was to allow the elected representatives in the relevant areas and her to see the actual situation on the ground.
