MOHE to bring Malaysian students home if Indonesia unrest worsens

JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 3 — The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) will take proactive steps, including by bringing home Malaysian students, if riots in several regions of Indonesia escalate, said its minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.

He said the MOHE, through the Education Malaysia (EM) office in the republic, continues to work with the Foreign Ministry to monitor the situation.

He said there are 1,200 Malaysian students pursuing their studies in the neighbouring country.

“Of course, if the situation escalates, it is our duty to take proactive measures (including bringing them home).

“Even now, we are conducting monitoring and working together with the Foreign Ministry,” he said at a press conference after launching the Digital Innovation Creativepreneur 3.0 programme at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre here today.

Also present were MOHE secretary-general Datuk Anesee Ibrahim and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Fadzli Adam.
