SHAH ALAM, Sept 3 — The Selangor government is fine-tuning the next phase of its mobility initiative and expects its demand-responsive transit (DRT) service to resume by the end of this year, reportsThe Star.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said fewer than five companies responded to the request for proposal (RFP) stage, partly due to the requirement that operators hold permits from the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad).
“One of the reasons why there is a slight delay is because Rapid KL is still expanding its DRT network.
“We are working closely with Rapid KL to ensure there is no overlap in areas of coverage when Selangor Mobility resumes, while also maximising both parties’ limited resources,” he told the English daily.
Ng added that the state is still evaluating the best business model for Selangor Mobility, including whether subsidies should continue like in the pilot phase or be replaced with a different method.
“I am hoping the DRT service under Selangor Mobility will resume by year end, but it will definitely be included as part of allocations under the 2026 Selangor Budget,” he said, acknowledging complaints and requests for the service to return.
“The pilot phase allowed us to run the project and collect data, then conduct an analysis to determine how to best maximise resources and ensure we get maximum returns from every sen spent.
“Areas that have responded well to the DRT are those with universities and colleges.”

Ng also welcomed Prasarana Malaysia’s plans to deploy 300 new vans to expand Rapid KL’s DRT coverage in the Klang Valley, with the vehicles expected to arrive in stages between December 2025 and July 2026.
The Selangor Mobility DRT pilot programme ran from November 2023 to July 2024 in eight zones across Selangor.
Provider Mobi ceased services on March 14, while Trek Rides ended operations on June 30.
