SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 — Sixteen agropreneurs have been shortlisted from 40 entries vying to be named Selangor Agro Icon 2024/2025, with the winner to be announced at the end of the month.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim said the finalists, all operating within Selangor, will be evaluated under categories including farming, livestock, aquaculture, agro-based industry and agro-tourism.
“We received 40 entries, submitted either online or physically, with some nominated by agencies. This includes 24 participants from last year and 16 this year.
“Menteri Besar (Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari) will announce the winner during the Selangor Agro Festival on September 25,” he told Media Selangor when contacted.
Izham said the prize, worth RM10,000, comprises RM5,000 in cash and equipment funding.
The evaluation will be based on criteria that emphasise innovation and technology adoption, in line with the state’s push towards modern agriculture.
“We will also visit their farms or factories to assess them more closely. Data such as sales records and profit margins will be taken into account, as we want to ensure viability and long-term growth,” Izham said.
The Selangor Agro Icon programme, introduced in 2020, also tracks the progress of each winner over a two-year period to ensure their businesses continue to grow.
