Selangor Sultan receives RM64.97m in business, income zakat

KLANG, Sept 2 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj today received RM64.97 million in business and income zakat on behalf of the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) from 13 companies and one individual at a ceremony held at Istana Alam Shah here.

At the ceremony, Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), represented by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, handed over RM28.01 million in business zakat, making it the largest corporate contributor to the LZS this year.

This was followed by Cyberview Sdn Bhd (RM5.43 million), Tenaga Nasional Bhd (RM4.57 million), Kumpulan Gas Malaysia Bhd (RM3.5 million) and Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd (RM3.42 million).

Other contributors included PLUS Bhd (RM2.6 million), Proton Group (RM3.19 million), DRB-HICOM Group (RM2.45 million), Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (RM1.64 million), Maybank Islamic Bhd (RM1.6 million) and Etiqa Takaful Group (RM1.5 million).

The National Farmers’ Organisation (NAFAS) and Edgenta Infrastructure Services Sdn Bhd also contributed RM1 million each in business zakat.

Businessman and corporate figure Datuk Kamarudin Meranun also paid income zakat of RM5.07 million at the ceremony.

Meanwhile, LZS chief executive officer Mohd Khaidzir Shahari, when met, said that the substantial contributions from zakat payers have a direct impact on more than 350,000 recipients in Selangor through various assistance provided and socio-economic development programmes implemented.

“We deeply appreciate the commitment of corporate companies and individuals who continue to make LZS the primary channel for zakat payments.

“This contribution will be used to strengthen the asnaf development agenda, thereby supporting the well-being of the Selangor community,” he said.

Also present at the ceremony were Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin, LZS chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail, and LZS deputy chairman Tan Sri Ambrin Buang.
