Strong turnout at JER 100 Carnival shows govt initiative helping households

GOMBAK, Sept 1 — Thousands of residents thronged the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) 100 Carnival in Batu Caves today, using their RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) aid to stock up on essential goods.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the turnout showed that the Unity Government’s initiative, supported by the state, is directly helping households cope with the rising cost of living.

“The effectiveness of this effort is clear through the JER programme organised by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS), in collaboration with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).

“Now in its third year, JER has proven the state government’s ability to deliver positive and sustainable economic impact for the people,” he said when launching the carnival here.

Amirudin, who is also Sungai Tua assemblyman, said more than 4,000 visitors were expected, with ample supplies of basic goods prepared for the day.

PKPS chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said over 20 types of essentials were offered at affordable prices, enabling families to make the most of their RM100 Sara allocation.

“With just RM100, people can buy up to 20 items such as rice, coconut milk, wheat flour, sardines, soy sauce, coffee and eggs.

“PKPS remains committed to carrying out such initiatives to ensure the wellbeing of the people, in line with the state government’s aspirations,” he said.

On July 23, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a one-off RM100 allocation for all citizens aged 18 and above, credited directly via MyKad under the Sara programme. The assistance can be spent until December 31.
