State to launch new guidelines for care centres in October

SHAH ALAM, Aug 31 — A new and more systematic set of guidelines for care centres will be launched next month, said state executive councillor for welfare Anfaal Saari.

She said the guidelines, which emphasise safety aspects particularly involving children, will be applied across all local authorities.

“In July last year, Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze raised the matter of these guidelines. After a year of discussions, the first draft was presented in August and will be brought to the State Executive Council soon.

“Now, we are waiting for the decision of the state legal adviser, expected by the end of September. Once everything is finalised, the guidelines are set to be launched in October,” she told Media Selangor.

Anfaal said that the new guidelines will place strong emphasis on safety issues while also simplifying the application process.

“The guidelines cover, for example, fire department reviews on stairways, requirements for flagpole placement, and parallel planning, which means establishing a special committee at the local authority level.

“At present, applications must be submitted to different departments, but under the new guidelines, applicants only need to submit once to the local authority,” she said.

Previously, a Special Committee for the Improvement of Care Services was formed to ease the process for operators who currently face varying registration requirements across Selangor’s 12 local authorities.
