GOMBAK, Aug 31 — The affordable sales programme for essential goods, launched by the Selangor government three years ago, has led to the formation of a new ecosystem to boost food security.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Jualan Ehsan Rakyat, now known as Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER), has been used as an example by the federal government so its benefits can be enjoyed nationwide.

“Its impact is very good, and the JER launched by the federal government takes a similar formula to the JER we implement. Now we have mobilised it in various forms.

“What’s important is that it forms an ecosystem … for the state’s future food security, so we become a resilient community,” he told reporters after officiating the Merdeka Fun Run in Dataran Niaga here today.

He said the state government intends to keep improving upon the JER, including by empowering food security through the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) and Selangor’s other economic plans.

“We will announce (the improvements) including in the RS-2 and state budget. Several short- and medium-term plans for us to continue the state’s progress,” Amirudin said.

The state government introduced the Jualan Ehsan Rakyat at Selangor’s Merdeka celebration on August 20, 2022.

Its name was changed to JER following the Selangor Agriculture Development Corporation’s (PKPS) cooperation with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).

JER offers essential goods at prices lower than market rates, specifically to help lower- and middle-income groups.
