SHAH ALAM, Aug 30 — Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam came alive as more than 30,000 visitors took part in the Selangor-level 68th National Day celebrations this year.
A variety of events were lined up to enliven the historic occasion, which carried the theme 'Rakyat Disantuni'.
The arrival of Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at 8.45pm, accompanied by members of the Selangor State Executive Council (MMKN), was warmly welcomed. The ceremony began with the singing of the national anthem Negaraku and the state anthem.
Visitors from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds had gathered as early as 5pm, many dressed in outfits inspired by the Jalur Gemilang.
Highlights of the evening included a parade and procession featuring 83 contingents comprising various agencies, statutory bodies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and schools from across the state, along with a special performance by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
The parade also showcased assets and vehicles of various agencies, including national security forces, in addition to performances by local artistes such as Dato’ Hattan, Bunkface, Aisyah Retno, and Ruffedge.
The night’s climax was a fireworks display and the patriotic Merdeka chant led by Amirudin at the stroke of midnight.
