KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 — Selangor FC has landed South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Malaysia as its official mobility partner, a move the Red Giants say reflects growing international confidence in Malaysian football.
Club chief executive officer Johan Kamal Hamidon said the partnership demonstrates that global companies now recognise the value of aligning their brands with local teams.
“When a global brand like Hyundai comes in, it shows trust in Selangor FC’s ability to carry their name and reach fans.
“Throughout the year, our efforts are focused on team performance so sponsors can be confident they are aligned with a club that always gives its best and fights on the pitch,” he said during the signing ceremony at Menara Affin @ TRX today.
The signing was done in the presence of the Red Giants’ royal patron, the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
Also present at the event today were Hyundai managing director Jahabarnisa Haja Mahideen, its chief executive officer Eric Lee, and Selangor FC chief operating officer Aladdin Mostafa.
The partnership includes cash sponsorship and the provision of a premium Hyundai Staria MPV as the club’s official vehicle for the 2025 to 2026 season. This marks Hyundai’s first direct sponsorship of Selangor FC.

Johan added that the deal strengthens confidence not only in Selangor FC but in the Malaysian League more broadly, which has faced doubts over its financial sustainability.
“I believe when local football teams take the initiative to engage fans and run more activations, trust grows.
“I am confident that teams like Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, and, of course, Johor Darul Ta’zim have strong potential to attract more sponsors because their growing fan bases continue to draw public attention,” he said.
Selangor FC will continue running outreach programmes, promotions and media activities to ensure partners and fans benefit from the club’s growth.
“In the long term, we must sustain these efforts, work harder to convince sponsors, and build an ecosystem where everyone, sponsors, fans, and partners, benefits. That is our long-term vision,” Johan said.
Hyundai’s branding first appeared on Selangor FC polo shirts during the league opener against Johor Darul Ta’zim earlier this month. In the coming months, it is expected to be more visible on training kits, matchday activations, and stadium promotions.
The Staria MPV will also be used for team duties, including matchday travel, community outreach, and promotional events, aligning with the club’s goal of building a modern, professional football environment.
