SHAH ALAM, Aug 29 — The Selangor government plans to introduce artificial intelligence (AI)-based learning methods for mathematics and science under the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS) starting next year.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said AI would be incorporated as a new learning module in PTRS to boost academic performance and encourage technology adoption among students.
“AI will be used as a tool to enhance the teaching of science and mathematics, possibly through training for PTRS teachers.
“Current teaching methods may be less engaging compared to the appeal of social media, so adaptation is necessary. The syllabus will remain unchanged, but the approach must be improved with AI,” he told reporters after delivering his National Day address at the MBSA Convention Centre, here today.
Amirudin, who also oversees the state education portfolio, said discussions would soon be held with the Selangor State Education Department (JPN) to implement the technology-driven approach.
“I will announce the implementation details during the tabling of the 2026 Selangor Budget. We aim to launch the initiative between March and April next year,” he said, referring to the state budget expected to be tabled in November.
He added that AI-based learning would be introduced as an additional class activity under PTRS, supported by Selangor JPN.
The state government has allocated RM11 million for PTRS 2025, which would benefit more than 160,000 students.
The free tuition programme offers supplementary lessons in Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science, History, and Additional Mathematics for Form Four and Form Five students from low-income (B40) families or those with average or weak academic performance.
