SHAH ALAM, Aug 29 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has called on the public to attend the state-level 68th National Day celebration at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam, tomorrow night.

The Menteri Besar said the event will highlight messages of unity and solidarity from various segments of society, featuring activities such as a parade of uniformed contingents.

“The celebration reflects our love for the country and showcases Selangor’s strength in every aspect. It is also a sign of our joy in marking Malaysia’s 68th year of independence.

“We expect between 30,000 and 50,000 visitors, depending on the long weekend holiday. Based on the past five years, turnout has always been high, as the parade alone involves nearly 5,000 to 6,000 participants,” he told reporters after delivering his National Day address at the MBSA Convention Centre, here today.

Amirudin said today’s event gathered state administration leaders, agencies, local authorities, and community representatives to convey key messages ahead of Merdeka Day on Sunday.

“Every year, I would deliver a speech on the eve of Merdeka Day, but that is usually when people are focused on the celebration itself. This time, we decided to hold it two days earlier.

“My message today is a countdown toward Malaysia’s 100th year of independence in 2057. Selangor must remain ready to stay competent as a leading competitive state and major contributor to the economy,” Amirudin said.

He also expressed hope that the points conveyed in his address would guide the state administration and leadership in advancing Selangor and sustaining its legacy of achievements as Malaysia approaches its centennial year of independence.
