SUBANG JAYA, Aug 28 — RM3.5 million has been allocated for a flood mitigation project around Lagoon Perdana Apartment in PJS 9, Bandar Sunway, which has faced the recurring disaster since 2021.
Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze said the funds were channelled by Kiranamaz Property Sdn Bhd as the project developer, under its corporate social responsibility programme.
“The main reason for the recurring floods is that water cannot drain when Sungai Klang is at capacity.
“In heavy rain, the apartment’s ground floor carpark becomes inundated, to the point that some vehicles were declared total losses.
“Rainwater also flows into the ditches behind over 100 business premises nearby, causing losses to traders,” she said after a visit to the apartment today.
Ng said the mitigation project will be done in two phases over three months, with upgrading works starting today.
“The first phase, valued at RM500,000, involves upgrading drains in the apartment area to cascading drains (1.2mx0.9m) that connect to the existing catchment along the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP).
“The second phase involves a cost of RM3 million to upgrade the existing U-drain connection on Jalan PJS 9/1 by installing wingwalls and flap gates. This is similar to those in surrounding developments so water flows into Sungai Klang,” Ng said.
