SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — The Selangor government will formulate special guidelines to make it easier for children in the state to report bullying, as part of efforts to curb the abusive culture.
State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the guidelines would provide children, especially boarding school students, with a channel to lodge reports if they are mistreated.
“Perhaps they are uncomfortable or too afraid to tell anyone. These guidelines will make it easier for the children to report.
“I hope this would help in curbing the culture of bullying from spreading, before the matter gets out of control,” she told Media Selangor today.
Anfaal also advised parents to immediately lodge reports with the Education Ministry (MOE) and Social Welfare Department (JKM) if their children are victims of bullying.
This, she said, is to ensure prompt action can be taken once there is a case.
“I believe preventive measures are crucial to avoid any other unwanted incidents,” she said.
Last week, the MOE said bullying in schools should be reported on its Aduan Buli portal, adding that complete information, if provided, would allow for investigation.
