Three recipients honoured with Selangor Disabled Entrepreneur Icon award

SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — Three business owners were presented with the Selangor Disabled Entrepreneur Icon award by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah today.

The trio was crowned following the conclusion of the Selangor Youth Community’s Leaders, Entrepreneurship, Acceleration and Development (SAY LEAD) Entrepreneurship League for the Disabled held at Sunway Resort Hotel in Subang Jaya.

They defeated seven other contestants in the final round of the league.

Dessert entrepreneur Nur Sabrina, who is hearing-impaired, was crowned champion, while second place was won by handicraft entrepreneur Norhaiza, also hearing-impaired. Third place went to ready-to-eat sambal entrepreneur Azura Othman, who has a physical disability.

All three winners received a trophy, a certificate of recognition, and business grants — RM5,000 for the champion, RM4,000 for the runner-up, and RM3,000 for third place.

The winners will also receive financial mentoring from Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd (PUNB), along with a fully sponsored point-of-sale (POS) system from Yayasan MBI and a free portal by App Engage.

They also qualify to participate in the SAY LEAD+ mentorship programme for one year, which aims to help entrepreneurs expand their businesses through access to new markets, digitalisation, export opportunities, and free booths.

Meanwhile, Tengku Amir Shah conferred the Aspiring Entrepreneur Award to Nur Nuha Mohd Fazil (learning disability) and Aiman Aznur (autism).

Nuha runs a Japanese food business under Dhuha Tensai Resources, while Aiman produces handicraft products through Aimalis Heritage.

The sixth edition of SAY LEAD, which started in May, featured 30 participants who underwent courses on entrepreneurship profiling, business model canvas, and business planning.

Other courses included branding and digital marketing, financial management, sharing sessions with relevant agencies, workshops, and business presentations.

The final round of the league was judged by Tengku Amir Shah, state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi, PUNB Central Region head Damaiyanti Mohd Nawi, Selangor Platform (PLATS) project director Siti Nur Hazwani Md Sabudin, and National Entrepreneurship Institute senior training executive Aisyah Abdul Rahman.
