MOSCOW, August 24 — The Pentagon plans to send troops P Chicago, Illinois, to fight crime, with at least several thousand National Guards personnel possibly mobilised, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti quoting a Washington Post newspaper report, citing officials.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that he planned to bring order to liberal cities in the country, such as New York and Los Angeles.
The Pentagon has been planning a military deployment to Chicago for weeks, as Trump seeks to reduce crime, homelessness and illegal immigration, the publication said.
The plan includes several options, including mobilising at least several thousand National Guard members, while the use of active troops is also being discussed, it said, citing officials.
Earlier, Trump transferred some of the powers of Washington, DC's law enforcement agencies to federal control, declaring an unprecedented level of crime in the city.
The National Guard has been deployed in a number of places under a temporary state of emergency.
A US military official confirmed to RIA Novosti on Friday that the National Guard, previously deployed in Washington to "restore order", would be carrying weapons.
