PETALING JAYA, Aug 22 — Some 17 out of 38 licensed traders in the Lembah Subang 1 area have applied for new stall sites provided by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) following the relocation exercise on Wednesday (August 20).

Seri Setia state assemblyman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the relocation involved 64 hawker stalls that had been operating in the area for more than 20 years.

“This move was necessary as the original site was not a gazetted area for trading activities. It was, in fact, a four-lane road, and MBPJ will also be building a covered pedestrian walkway connecting to the Lembah Subang Light Rail Transit (LRT) station.

“Our aim is to ensure that residents of the Lembah Subang People’s Housing Project (PPR) can enjoy better planned and more comfortable housing facilities,” he explained.

Fahmi was speaking to the press after visiting the traders’ stall site at PPR Lembah Subang 1 recently.

He added that the stall structures covering the drains in the area were also a leading cause of flooding, as the drainage system could not be adequately maintained.

At the same time, Fahmi said the state government is currently in discussions with the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) to redevelop PPR Lembah Subang 1 into better, modern, and more comfortable housing, similar to that in Kota Damansara.

“Our focus is not only on the relocation of traders, but also on long-term planning so that residents here can enjoy a more orderly and comfortable housing environment and infrastructure,” he said.
