SHAH ALAM, Aug 21 — Over 1,000 enforcement officers from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will take part in the International Aikido Shudokan training camp starting tomorrow.

The Star quoted Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon as saying that the “Restraint and Removal” workshop will run until Sunday (August 24) at the PJ Civic Hall, where participants will be trained in joint locks, throws, and other techniques to subdue aggressors by redirecting their energy.

“This training teaches techniques that can be applied for defence and self-protection,” he said at a press conference at the council’s headquarters yesterday.

The programme will be recognised in the Malaysia Book of Records as the largest Aikido training session for enforcement staff in the country.

Separately, a Women's Awareness and Personal Safety Workshop will also be held on Saturday (August 23) with 1,000 participants.

“This training will focus on breaking grips, countering an attacker’s centre of balance, and using leverage against brute strength. It is practical because it provides skills to escape common situations such as being grabbed,” Zahri said.

He added that both events, organised in conjunction with the Merdeka month, were designed to promote harmony and strengthen community safety awareness.

The international camp has also attracted 150 participants from 18 countries, including Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Canada, the Netherlands, Qatar, the United States, Russia, Croatia, Poland, and France.
