SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — Approximately RM63.9 million was spent on road and lighting upgrading and maintenance projects in Klang last year, with an additional RM26 million allocated so far this year, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
The 2024 allocation covered 34 pavement works, 26 non-pavement projects, 14 bridge and culvert repairs, and 41 streetlight and traffic light upgrades, all of which have been completed.
For this year, the allocation will fund 14 pavement works, nine non-pavement projects, three bridge and culvert repairs, and 15 lighting upgrades, which are expected to be completed by November.
“As of July 2025, the ministry has allocated RM25.07 million for periodic pavement, non-pavement, and bridge and culvert maintenance, which are carried out by the appointed concessionaires.
“A further RM1.4 million is allocated for streetlight and traffic light maintenance, which will be handled by the Public Works Department (JKR),” he said in a Parliamentary written reply yesterday.
Nanta added that four road upgrade projects are currently at various stages of development — one at the design stage, two under construction, and one recently completed ahead of schedule.
Among the ongoing works is the Lingkaran Pulau Indah Phase 3 project, which has reached 60.85 per cent completion, ahead of schedule. Another project, the Northport road upgrade, is being re-tendered after the contractor’s contract was terminated in May.
“Therefore, JKR is in the process of re-tendering the project through the appointment of a completion contractor. The Letter of Acceptance for the completion contractor is expected in November,” he said.
The minister has also submitted Selangor’s request under Rolling Plan One of the 13th Malaysia Plan for two projects in Klang: the upgrade of Jalan Perindustrian Kapar-Meru and the building of a pedestrian bridge in front of SMK Tengku Idris Shah.
