COMPARED with other sports and beyond road users’ aggression towards cyclists, the sport continues to be enjoyed by cycling enthusiasts as it promotes a fun, healthy lifestyle.
This is apparent when every weekend, cyclists are out in droves to work up a sweat in the morning sun, all in the name of health and hobby.
Cycling, which was once synonymous with rural life and evening activities, is now a lifestyle and environmentally friendly symbol for people of all ages and walks of life.
This cycling enthusiast admits that the sport is good for the heart, strengthening muscle, burning calories, and weight control. It could also lower stress.
Below are some scenes seen through the lens of Media Selangor photographers AHMAD ZAKKI JILAN and NUR ADIBAH AHMAD IZAM at several recreational centres and parks, revealing that the challenges faced by cyclists are not just hot weather and rain, but also the lack of safe bicycle lanes.
However, they also found that a good portion of cyclists perform periodic checks on their bicycles before they cycle on roads and at recreation parks. When in groups, they cycle in single file along the leftmost lane for safety.
In short, cyclists don’t just want to be healthy; they want to be safe and prevent untoward incidents.
