SELAYANG, Aug 17 – Several health initiatives introduced by the Selangor government that were previously offered only to state civil servants are now open to the general public.

Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the expanded programmes are Selangor Sihat, Langkah Individu Mampan (SLIM) and Anak Selangor Anak Sihat (ASAS), as well as food basket initiatives with a set number of recipients.

She said the move allows more people to benefit from the initiatives, which focus on preventive healthcare.

“The programmes will be implemented in nine districts at 18 locations this year and tailored to each state constituency and feedback from local leaders,” said the state executive councillor for public health when met at the Anak Selangor Anak Sihat Carnival and Selangor Lifestyle Improvement Module Programme at Pangsapuri Putri Laksamana, Batu Caves, here today.

State executive councillor for public health Jamaliah Jamaluddin speaks to the press when met at the Anak Selangor Anak Sihat Carnival and Selangor Lifestyle Improvement Module Programme at Pangsapuri Putri Laksamana, Batu Caves, on August 17, 2025.

Jamaliah said the new approach allows SLIM to target adults and parents, while ASAS focuses on children and families.

She stated that the main goal of the programmes is to instil a healthy lifestyle through exercise, healthy eating practices, and health screenings.

“We want to bring awareness to the people that maintaining health is important not only through exercise but also through nutrition and health checks.

“Our main focus is on preventive initiatives to reduce the public’s dependence on treatment,” she said.

Jamaliah added that the programmes are also supported by the Health Ministry, which provides influenza vaccines for senior citizens aged 60 and above and vaccines for children under five.

Other programme highlights include aerobics, basic health screenings, health talks, healthy cooking demonstrations, and physical activities for children.
