SHAH ALAM, August 14 — The Petronas Grand Prix 2025 (MotoGP) in Malaysia aims to draw a record 200,000 spectators to the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this October, with organisers launching a 24-hour “Buy 1 Free 1” Rahmah Ticket promotion to make the event more accessible.

According to SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif, the target is within reach, with 75 per cent of tickets already sold.

“With 184,923 spectators in 2024 and a target of 200,000 this year, MotoGP Malaysia continues to strengthen its position as one of the region’s premier sporting spectacles.

“We have already reached 75 per cent of our ticket capacity and this year, we are introducing exciting enhancements to the fan experience, including our first-ever pre-race electronic dance music (EDM) festivals,” he said in a statement.

Azham added that RM1 from every ticket sold will be channelled to the Kumpulan Wang Amanah Sukan Negara (KWASN) to support the Motorsports Development Programme, reflecting SIC’s long-term commitment to nurturing talent while delivering world-class experiences.

As part of its Malaysia Madani agenda, SIC is continuing its Tiket Rahmah initiative, offering K2 Hillstand tickets at RM49.90, while its “Buy 1 Free 1” promotion was available for 24 hours starting at 12pm on August 12.

For the first time, MotoGP Malaysia will also be preceded by two large-scale EDM festivals, “HARDTECH” on October 18 and the Malaysian debut of the globally-renowned Transmission Festival on October 19.

MotoGP Malaysia, which is scheduled to take place from October 24 to October 26, was officially launched by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh on August 12 at TRX City Park.

The event marks 34 years since Malaysia joined the global MotoGP and is the 26th edition to be held at SIC, making it the nation’s longest-running international sporting event.

Meanwhile, Yeoh said that the race is “more than just a motorsports event”, calling it a strategic national asset that drives tourism, creates jobs, and supports youth development.

“With a 6.3 times return on investment and more than RM329 million in economic impact, the event continues to deliver tangible value to our economy and communities,” she said in the same statement.

Organisers are expecting the events to attract thousands of international fans in the lead-up to Race Week.

Race Week activities will kick off on October 21 with a bike parade and riders’ meet-and-greet in Putrajaya, followed by the Public Pit Lane Walk, Riders’ Autograph Session, and the return of the Night Track Tour on October 24.

The MotoGP Mega Carnival, meanwhile, will feature over 100 lifestyle and motorsport brands, along with entertainment, food and beverages, and family-friendly activities.

Fans stand a chance to win an Aprilia RS457 motorcycle worth RM33,900 in the #MalaysianGP2025 Mega Lucky Draw, open to Grandstand ticket holders, with the winner announced during race weekend.

Six pairs of exclusive hotel stays are also up for grabs via monthly social media contests. Tickets are available at www.sepangcircuit.com.
