SHAH ALAM, Aug 14 — Police have revealed that the motorcycle used by a duo allegedly involved in the attack on Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s 12-year-old son at a mall in Putrajaya carried a fake licence plate.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said this was discovered after checks of the registration number, but assured the authorities are tracking down the suspects.
“The attackers’ … identities have not yet been established,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Shazeli added that police are working to identify the contents of the syringe with which Rafizi’s son was jabbed during the attack.
Yesterday, police confirmed the incident occurred at about 2pm at the mall’s drop-off area, and that the victim is in hospital for examination.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Shazeli said the case is being investigated under three provisions:
Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 involving physical contact with a child without sexual intercourse, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and whipping
Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, punishable by up to 10 years’ jail, a fine, whipping, or a combination of these punishments
Section 352 of the Penal Code for assault or the use of criminal force, which carries a maximum three-month jail term, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both
Yesterday, Rafizi said that at 1.45pm, a man grabbed his son and jabbed him with a syringe as his wife and child were getting into their car to leave the mall.
He claimed the assault involved two helmeted, black-clad men on a motorcycle.
The former Cabinet member claimed the assault was a deliberate attempt at silencing him, but vowed he will “not bow to any threat” and perform his duties as usual.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail assured that investigations will be conducted fairly and in accordance with the law, without any influence from anyone’s status or background.
Several MPs, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, have condemned the attack.
