KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Government and Opposition MPs have expressed solidarity and strongly condemned the assault on the son of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli at a shopping mall in Putrajaya yesterday.
Port Dickson MP cum Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun described the assault as an act of violence that surpasses human decency.
Aminuddin, who is also Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice president, said that in a democratic country, differences of opinion cannot be settled through threats or violence, especially when children are involved.
“We fully support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement that the law must be enforced without compromise. No one can evade strict action if found guilty of involvement,” he said at a press conference at the Parliament building today.
Other government MPs present at the press conference included Subang MP Wong Chen, P. Prabakaran (Batu), Tan Kar Hing (Gopeng), Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (Ledang), Dr Taufiq Johari (Sungai Petani), Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik (Balik Pulau), and Hassan Abdul Karim (Pasir Gudang).
Meanwhile, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin also strongly condemned the assault.
“I want to make it clear that I, along with the opposition MPs, will stand united on this issue to ensure that not only Yang Berhormat Rafizi, but also his family are safe, and that such an incident does not recur,” he said during a separate press conference.
