Kelana Jaya line signalling upgrade rescheduled to September 6 for additional testing

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — The upgrading works on Phases Two and Three of the Kelana Jaya line signalling system, initially scheduled to begin on Saturday (August 9), have been postponed to September 6.

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad said that the rescheduling was to allow additional testing of the new Phase 1 signalling system to ensure it is fully functional and efficient.

The additional tests are crucial to assess the system’s performance under actual operating conditions and to minimise the risk of future service disruptions.

“For Phase One, the upgrading works were carried out during night maintenance hours as the affected areas were mainly around the depot and did not involve the main train operating route.

“This upgrading project is part of a long‑term solution following the signalling system disruption incident in November 2022,” it said in a statement today.

Prasarana added that the Phase Two works will take place on September 6, September 7, September 14, September 15, September 21, September 27, and September 28, as well as October 11 and October 12, covering stations from KLCC to Gombak.

Phase Three is scheduled for November 1, November 2, November 8, November 9, November 15, November 16, November 29, and November 30, involving the Lembah Subang to Ampang Park stretch.

This means the affected stations will only open to passengers from 9am, later than the usual 6am start, while stations not involved in the system testing will operate as usual.

However, free shuttle buses and vans will be provided to connect the affected stations to ensure smooth passenger movement.

“Passengers will be assisted by station staff, auxiliary police and Prasarana Troopers (trained volunteers) who will be stationed at the affected and interchange stations. Information boards and leaflets will also be available at stations and bus stops to guide commuters.

“Prasarana apologises for any inconvenience caused by the change in the upgrade schedule. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of passengers throughout this period,” it said.

The new SelTrac Generation 8 signalling system provides real‑time data analysis, enhanced cybersecurity and improved communication stability. It is expected to extend the lifespan of the existing signalling system by up to 20 years.
