SEPANG, Aug 3 — More than 7,000 participants from 11 countries filled the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this morning for the Selangor Marathon (Selmar) 2025, organised by Tourism Selangor in conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025) tourism campaign.
State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato' Ng Suee Lim said the programme featured five main categories: 42 kilometres (km), 21km, 10km, 5km, and the Kids Dash.
“Selmar is a flagship event organised by Tourism Selangor in collaboration with the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) and SIC.
“Winners in each category received cash prizes and medals in recognition of their achievements,” he said.
Ng was speaking to the press after officiating Selmar's flag-off at the SIC. Also present were MPSepang President Ani Ahmad and Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling.
He added that hosting Selmar will augment the potential of sports tourism in the state, making it a preferred destination for visitors.
“It also demonstrates Selangor’s capability to host large-scale events in conjunction with VSY2025,” Ng said.
The state government looks to attract up to eight million visitors to Selangor this year, with transaction values expected to reach RM11.7 billion under VSY2025.
The campaign will feature more than 60 programmes and events, with promotional efforts focusing on several key segments, including ecotourism, agrotourism, arts, and culture.
