MB welcomes 13MP, says in line with state initiatives

SHAH ALAM, July 31 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has welcomed the announcements made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when tabling the 13th Malaysian Plan (13MP) today, saying many of these commitments align closely with Selangor’s long-term development plan.

These include the Pulau Carey port expansion, flood mitigation in Sungai Langat and Sungai Buloh, and improved public transport coverage across the Klang Valley.

He said these initiatives will boost the state’s position as the nation’s economic engine, contributing nearly a third to its economy.

“For Selangor, swift action such as the Pulau Carey port construction, as announced by the Prime Minister, is a positive move.

“The state government is ready to collaborate with Putrajaya to expedite this project, which will support Port Klang’s rising capacity and advance Malaysia’s ambition to become a key transhipment hub in Asia,” Amirudin said in a statement today.

He also welcomed the Federal procurement of 300 demand-responsive transit (DRT) vans, 1,200 buses and 217 passenger train sets, noting that these would enhance last-mile connectivity and reduce congestion in the Klang Valley.

“This is an acknowledgement by the Federal government towards the DRT pioneered by the local councils in Selangor, and I am confident that these buses and vans procured by Putrajaya will ease traffic during peak hours,” Amirudin said.

On flood mitigation, the Menteri Besar commended the inclusion of the Sungai Langat and Sungai Buloh mitigation projects, while urging efficient tender processes and close monitoring to prevent delays.

He also threw his support behind the 13MP’s focus on climate action, particularly through renewable energy, climate legislation, and waste-to-energy initiatives.

Amirudin also backed the plan’s pledge to create 1.2 million jobs in high-growth sectors like manufacturing and the digital economy, saying it will directly benefit Selangor’s youth training under Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.

“The Perkasa TVET Madani programme and training allocations are timely. TVET must be positioned as a top choice, not a fallback.

“We must ensure alignment with the 21 priority sectors under the New Industrial Master Plan,” he said.

Amirudin similarly welcomed the target of building one million affordable homes by 2035, alongside continued financial assistance through Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah for urban households.

On food security, he cited Sekinchan’s successful implementation of five paddy harvests over two years as a model for wider adoption under 13MP.
