SHAH ALAM, July 26 — Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is no longer just an option but has become a core pillar in developing human capital and driving Selangor’s economic growth, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the field is increasingly gaining recognition due to its ability to produce skilled labour and generate opportunities in innovative, technology-based entrepreneurship that creates future jobs.
“Investments in TVET not only produce skilled workers but also cultivate technopreneurs who are able to develop innovative solutions through technology.
“In Selangor alone, TVET sectors like industrial automation, drones, electrical and electronics, smart manufacturing, renewable energy technology, and artificial intelligence are growing rapidly and require a large skilled workforce,” Amirudin said.
He was delivering his speech at the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre's (STDC) 24th Convocation Ceremony at the State Secretariat Building today.
The Menteri Besar added that the rapid development of TVET in Selangor is aligned not only with the National TVET Policy but also supports the aspirations outlined in the Federal government’s National Industrial Master Plan 2030.
Earlier, Amirudin presented graduation certificates to 360 graduates across various skill-based disciplines, and officiated the presentation of the Selangor Menteri Besar Special Award to air-conditioning graduate Muhammad Adam Zikri Harun.
Two other graduates were also recognised: Muhammad Aqil Bahaman (Youth Inspiration Award) and Ahmad Hakimi Miswon (True Grit Award).
Meanwhile, Adam, 20, described his experience studying at STDC as the most valuable period of his life, one that built resilience and a strong work ethic.
“One of the biggest challenges was getting injured in the workshop, failing practical tests, and having my work rejected for not meeting standards. But all of this shaped me into a more resilient person.
“With the training I received at STDC, I intend to contribute and apply my knowledge in the working world,” said the Sungai Burong, Sekinchan native.
